Oak Wilt Disease Update
Oak Wilt Disease update…
Oak Wilt Disease was discovered in 2008 in the Glen Oaks neighborhood of Glenville, and the NYS DEC developed a management plan that included the removal of 30 + trees earlier this year. Good news…to-date, since the diseased trees were removed, no new evidence of Oak Wilt has been found in Glen Oaks or any trees in the Glenville area. The DEC is now awaiting approval for the next phase of work which includes stump grinding, reseeding the affected areas, and planting replacement trees. Monitoring for Oak Wilt will continue into the foreseeable future, with the hope that this outbreak was contained and eliminated. Reminder – Moving firewood over 50 miles is prohibited by State Regulation. Info at http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/28722.html
